Ailleurs
far° festival 2016

Publié le 22.06.2016

Titled Ailleurs (Elsewhere), the 32nd far° festival focuses on the issue of migration – a predominant topic in the news but one which the media tends to offer a rather unilateral account of. In contrast, tackling this issue through the lens of performing arts allows for a variety of viewpoints and this is precisely what the festival will seek to achieve over 11 days. Without claiming to have ready-made solutions, our aim is to propose sensitive approaches that are likely to broaden our understanding of a complex situation. We might immerse ourselves in history and remember peoples’ displacements from the past, even if the conditions that triggered these movements were very different. We might remember also that Switzerland has known several waves of immigration and that its current social fabric depends on ethnic diversity. We might address the fear of others by committing further to communal life and to a diverse, mobile and welcoming society, and by keeping in mind the words of writer and essayist Olivier Mongin, ’migrants are an invitation to see the world differently…
