Laboratoire de la pensée

August
2020

An ally to your experience of the shows, the Laboratoire de la pensée (“The Thought Lab”) invites the adventurous to broaden their knowledge of performing arts. Specially reformulated this year to follow all the events of the Communs singuliers series until the summer of 2021, this lab features debates based on the works and a creative approach to writing. Led by guests who are specialists in the field of performing arts, and set in two parts – Atelier d’écriture and Watch & Talk – the Lab aims to provide a two-way link between the artistic projects, the artists and the audience by adopting original approaches and fostering critical thinking.

Guests Nina Kennel (fr) and Sébastien Grosset (ch)

The guests assist with Atelier d’écriture and with the meetings with the artists-in-residence in Watch & Talk. The point of their presence lies in the shared theoretical input with regards to the artistic proposals presented at far°. In relation to the subjects of their own research and areas of expertise, guests initiate and fuel discussions revolving around the artistic proposals, thereby enhancing the perception of the works. This year far° is delighted to collaborate with Nina Kennel and Sébastien Grosset.

Nina Kennel studied performance at HEAD–Genève, Geneva School of Art and Design and is currently conducting further research at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris. Her work focuses, among other areas, on the creation of narratives based on events and works from the world of the arts and contemporary cinema. She is particularly attentive to the audience’s experience, to what they talk about based on what they have seen, perceived and felt. She one day hopes to be able to demonstrate that “imagining things” (literally se faire un film, “making one’s one movie” in French) also has something to do with cinema.

Sébastien Grosset is an author, dramaturg and a researcher in architectural philosophy. His written work aims to break down barriers between word and song, text and score, theatre and music, and often resorts to various forms of spoken polyphonies. His research is now increasingly opening up to geographic and architectural issues. At far° he has presented several collaborative projects, e.g. with Le club des arts (Le Centre du monde, L’autre continent), Michèle Gurtner (Les Rapports oraux des services), Nicolas Leresche and Anne Delahaye (Pouvoir du point) and last year, with Joëlle Fontannaz and Camille Mermet (Paysages impossibles).
