Elpida Orfanidou is a choreographer, pianist, and pharmacist. She lives between Berlin and Athens, her native city. In her first projects she approached the genres of cinema and produced performances in a documentary perspective fuelled by her own biographical journey. Her current work and research explore traditions and crafts with a choreographic approach. What she is most interested in terms of traditions is that they emanate from the collective rather than individuals. Songtellers is a one-on-one encounter with the artist, which starts with a traditional Greek song. In the cosy yet mysterious atmosphere of a small house – once a place of isolation and healing – memories, movements, stories and dances are crafted in the present moment. With the tools of a songteller, Orfanidou welcomes an ephemeral symbiosis between near and far, familiar and unknown, ordinary and magical, plans and intuition.
