At an early stage in this project, Anne-Lise Tacheron collected a large amount of second-hand clothing, focusing on how it was made, its use and circulation. An altogether quite commonplace daily action, dressing reveals itself as a marker of our society and times. The heap of clothing collected by the artist becomes a malleable and constantly changing material that continuously addresses the body’s relationship to dressing. Gestures and postures that relate to the ways we dress constitute a system of signs that reveal our gender, age and social status, as well as our community affiliations and our political aspirations. In Action Center, three performers seek to give body to fabrics to create temporary and poetic sculptures in which individuals tend to disappear.
