“Do you ever read a text and hear a voice very clearly in your head?” Such was the opening line of one of Clara Amaral’s first works, a short story in which this inner voice gradually took over the main role. Calling on both imagination and fiction, the artist’s total performative practice takes place in unexpected places at the crossroads of language, choreography and writing. With In our eyes, a cascade, she explores a falling smartphone and the shifts in perspective that come with it. Just like a cascade that never stops falling – downwards and onwards – Clara Amaral stares into the same surface in order to produce porosity, depth and poetry.
