Abecedarium bestiarium, Antonia Baehr’s project, takes on a variety of forms. First designed for the stage, the artist has invited her friends to write short pieces for her, based on an ABC of extinct animals: D is for Dodo, T is for Tasmanian tiger, S is for Steller’s sea cow (Steller’s Rhytine)… The authors choose an extinct animal that they feel strongly about. The result is a heterogeneous series of short choreographed works that reflect the authors’ respective affinity to their chosen animal as well as their friendship to Antonia Baehr. For the Abecedarium bestiarium book, the choreographer has asked authors to offer contributions. Each contribution makes up a chapter of the ABC and comes with an etching, portraying the author next to his or her chosen extinct animal. The performance and the book both stand alone. This book is published within the framework of the Beginning with the abecedarium bestiarium and Abecedarium bestiarium – Portraits of affinities in animal metaphor projects.
