Bearing witness to a society that values and favours ‘smoothness as a characteristic of our present’, as proposed by philosopher Byung-Chul Han, Maximilian Reichert provides an act of resistance. His project, Le cri du lapin (‘The Rabbit's Scream’), can be considered as an investigation into our relationship with the finite nature of the body, a staging of our attempts to push back the inevitable. Why is there no room in our society for everything that is old and dying? A fan of powerful images and atmospheres, the young artist seeks to probe the psychic origin and mechanisms of repulsion and disgust. He creates situations where contradictory feelings clash, between tension and letting up, and even deliverance.
