El Viaje or The Journey “in the language of the conquistadores” is an invitation to set off on a voyage of discovery to a neighbouring “island”. Playing on the polysemy of the word and the echoes it finds in everyone, COLECTIVO UTÓPICO opens up a dialogue on exoticism (as an idea that is first and foremost geographical, with drastic consequences for populations and territories: between colonial expansion, migratory and tourist flows, crises of otherness and new urbanities). Along the way, the relationship between the length of the journey and the duration of the stay at the destination is reversed, urging us to shift our gaze away from the everyday and to refocus on the present moment, i.e. that of the journey. It is a proposal that sets in motion a gentle and moving process of decolonisation, creating an ephemeral community united by a shared sensory experience.
