Transgresser

In a country often praised for its respect for rules, Giulia Belet questions disobedience to authority and the many forms it can take. Running a red light; gluing one’s hand to a road with Super Glue to prevent the destruction of a butterfly sanctuary; or deflating the tyres of SUVs. Which acts are justified? What punishment should they deserve? And what ends justify which means?

The artist investigates the conditions that, at a given moment, make obedience unbearable and open the way to revolutionary processes—those tipping points where an internalised state of submission transforms into an individual reaction and eventually into collective action.

With Transgresser, Giulia Belet becomes the fourth recipient of the Récits du futur programme, a residency dedicated to research, writing and artistic creation.
